Brenda Munson - Granite Island Exhibition

Guernsey Museum at Candie is delighted to be opening an exhibition of paintings spanning the career of local artist, the late Brenda Munson, on Wednesday 3 May.
Brenda Munson (1931-2003) was born in Guernsey. She was evacuated to Halifax during the German Occupation and returned to the island with fresh eyes for the local landscape.

She set up Studio Gallois in Lower Forest Lane, holding successful exhibitions both locally and overseas. Brenda’s work is highly distinctive and personal. She captured Guernsey's coastline and often chose unusual views of local architecture with an intense awareness of its beauty.

Guernsey Museum at Candie is thrilled to be exhibiting artworks on loan from the George Webber Collection alongside paintings from its permanent collection. George Webber (1931-2022) moved to Guernsey in the 1970s with his wife and children, becoming a true patron of Brenda Munson’s art. He sought out artworks reflecting Brenda’s artistic development across her career. The exhibition is open daily until 21 June 2023.

Helen Glencross, Head of Heritage Services said: “This retrospective exhibition by Brenda Munson portrays such a distinctive view of Guernsey. It is wonderful to be able to showcase this popular artist's work, thanks to the Webber family.

Guernsey Museum is open daily 10.00-17.00 with free entry for Discovery Pass holders and their children.
