AI and the Creative Industries: Local creative leaders to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI

As part of the Chamber of Commerce’s AI – All In Sprint, creative professionals from across Guernsey will come together on the 27th October from 12 - 1.30pm to explore the impact of artificial intelligence on creative industries, on Island and worldwide.

Taking place at the Frossard Theatre at Guernsey Museum, AI and the Creative Industries will bring together an experienced panel working across filmmaking, journalism, writing, fashion design, brand and creative communications and digital arts. The discussion will look beyond the headlines around AI to explore how the technology is actually being used by creative professionals today and where it is creating new opportunities as well as some of the questions and challenges it presents for the industry.

The panel will be moderated by Rebecca Booth, CEO of Guernsey Arts, the umbrella organisation supporting all arts sectors across the Bailiwick.

Joining Rebecca will be:

● Tom Langford, Partner at Channel Islands creative agency Potting Shed. With a career spanning brand, strategy and creative communications. Tom is particularly interested in how technology is changing the way creative businesses think, work and deliver.

● Kay Davidson, womenswear designer, sustainability advocate and speaker, with more than 30 years’ experience in the fashion and clothing industry. Trained in Savile Row tailoring and clothing textile science, Kay has designed business wear and corporate clothing collections for leading international brands.

● Nick Mann, co-founder and editor of The Quarry, working independently at the interface of journalism and AI.

● Warren Mauger, journalist, filmmaker and owner of Spike Productions. With 30 years’ experience across television, radio and commercial production in the Channel Islands and internationally, Warren is also a co-founder of The Quarry.

● Charlie Towers, lecturer in Creative and Digital Arts at The Guernsey Institute, bringing an educational perspective on the rapidly changing creative and digital landscape.

The event will consider the practical applications of AI across different creative disciplines, including how professionals are incorporating new tools into their existing workflows, as well as the implications for skills, jobs, creativity and the future of the industry.

“AI is already having an impact across every area of the creative industries, but the conversation is often dominated by either excitement or concern. This event provides an opportunity to have an informed and practical discussion with people working in our creative industries. We want to explore what AI means for creativity in Guernsey, how creative professionals are using it today and how we can make sure that innovation complements rather than diminishes human creativity.”

Rebecca Booth, CEO of Guernsey Arts and moderator of the panel

The event forms part of the AI – All In Sprint, an island-wide programme taking place from the 1st October to the 12th November. Led by the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, the sprint will bring together businesses and organisations to explore the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence and encourage practical conversations about its impact on the workplace and wider economy. The creative industries are an important part of this conversation, with AI increasingly influencing everything from the development of ideas and creation of content to design, production, communication and distribution.
