James Colmer is a visual artist, illustrator and creative director living in Guernsey.
He studied illustration at Falmouth College of Arts and after a further stint living in Cornwall the call of Guernsey became too strong and he returned to the island to develop his artistic career.
James’ art has a strong connection to the Channel Islands and especially the sea and this is reflected in the diverse projects he has been involved with.
Highlights include illustrating for the Guernsey Literary Festival, designing the film poster for local movie “Occupied”, creating murals for hospital wards, designing multiple children’s books and illustrating for a dedicated Victor Hugo website for Visit Guernsey.
Artist statement:
“It’s fair to say I’m obsessed about the sea and its changing moods are an overriding influence on my art… Tranquility, drama, ferocity, all I try to reflect in my studies.
The people and places I paint, I try to bring out their personalities and emotions to create something deeper and more colourful than just a straight landscape or portrait. I love all mediums and exploring where I can broaden my experience in each format.
Oh and I’m always up for a challenge!”
