A RESPONSIVE OPEN CELEBRATING THE WORK OF DAVID ROBILLIARD
Join Guernsey Arts and Guernsey Museums & Art Galleries in celebrating the work and legacy of David Robilliard, a locally born artist who exhibited across the globe and today whose artwork is part of both national and international gallery collections including the Tate Modern.
David moved to London in 1975 to pursue a career in poetry which soon flourished into an exploration of art, sexuality and life. His first published book of poetry and first exhibition of his artwork both happened in 1984 which subsequently saw David’s career thrive. In 1988 during the height of the UK’s AIDS epidemic David contracted HIV and died later the same year, tragically cutting short both his life and his creative journey.
The brief is to create works in response to David's life and work. This can be in the form of poetry, prose, a simple doodle or a sketch. Selected works will be chosen to feature in a “Words and Doodles” zine (distributed to contributors and available to the public for a donation), and contributors will also be invited to join in an evening in December sharing their work.
When creating a response think simple but to the point.
Some key details to bear in mind:
- David Robilliard: Welcome to the Friendly Isles will be exhibited at Guernsey Museums at Candie from 18th October to 31st December.
- All entries will be replicated in greyscale - no colour will be printed.
- Entries will be replicated at A4 or A5.
- An exhibition preview evening for those wishing to create responses will be held on Wednesday 12th November from 5.30pm to 7pm (free tickets available on EventBrite)
To enter work please use the online form linked here.
The deadline for all submissions is Sunday 23rd November.
If you would like any further details or would like to submit your entry via an alternative route, please contact Jade@arts.gg or 01481 220713.
WHAT IS A ZINE?
A zine (short for fanzine) is a small, self-published, non-commercial booklet or magazine that is usually created in low-budget, DIY (do-it-yourself) style.
