'Guernsey, Guernesey, Garnsai, Sarnia: so they say. Well, I don’t know, I’m sure.’
In 1960s Guernsey, an elderly man called Ebenezer is living alone in a little house by the sea and keeping a journal on his long life. After the panes of glass in his greenhouse are unexpectedly smashed, Ebenezer finds himself forming an unlikely friendship with a young artist. As old memories begin to flood back as quickly as the rising tide, Ebenezer finds himself beginning to rethink his past.
Adapted and produced by Jules Upson and co-directed by Jules Upson and Benjamin Lewis, this graduate film is the first successful film adaptation of Guernsey’s treasured novel The Book of Ebenezer Le Page, by G. B. Edwards.
This event will include a drinks reception, a screening of The Islander, a screening of documentary The Book of G. B. Edwards (an interview with Professor Edward Chaney on his friendship with G. B. Edwards), and a panel Q&A with some of the cast and crew.
The film stars Dennis Burns, Kathryn Prince, Jules Upson, Joe Mansell, and Freya Tardif, as well as a host of Guernsey actors and crew.
The event is sponsored by Guernsey Arts. The film was made with the support of Guernsey Arts and The National Trust of Guernsey, Guernsey Museums and Galleries, Guernsey Language Commission, Guernsey Cans (Coppersmiths), Le Tricoteur, and the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden
