The Fanny Davies International Piano Series is thrilled to welcome local pianist
Sebastian Grand back to Guernsey for a solo piano recital and master class.
Sebastian now conducts the Delaware County Symphony Orchestra and directs the
Grand School of Music in Pennsylvania, USA.
He opens his programme with Schubert’s endearing and popular Impromptus, D.
899. These are full of colour, texture, and explore a huge range of characters and
emotions. Chopin’s celebrated Scherzo No. 2 follows, with its tentative opening
figure and subsequent strident chords. The second half explores Schubert’s songs in
the form of colouristic and virtuosic transcriptions made by Liszt, alongside pieces
inspired by water, appropriate for a Guernseyman’s return to the island: Liszt’s
delicate Games of Water and Debussy’s evocative The Sunken Cathedral and
passionate Joyous Island.
Sebastian Grand will work with talented local piano students in the 4pm workshop,
and anyone is welcome to attend with no tickets required.
