Adam Davies is a British pianist and piano teacher, a gold medallist in numerous
competitions, and an active performer in the nation’s most esteemed concert halls.
In Rachmaninov’s 150 th anniversary year, he performs the complete Etudes-
Tableaux, Op. 33 alongside the breathtaking fifth sonata of Scriabin, Rachmaninoff’s
classmate at the Moscow Conservatoire. Davies’ first half features Schubert’s
elegant and sunny Sonata in A, D. 664, and Liszt’s Soirée de Vienne, which borrows
theme and idea from Schubert’s waltzes. Schumann’s ‘Ghost Variations’ rounds out
the programme. These variations are a fascinating insight into the composer’s mind
on the brink of his internment at an insane asylum, and the piece is inspired by the
ghosts that Schumann imagined himself surrounded by.
Adam Davies will work with talented local piano students in the 4pm workshop, and
anyone is welcome to attend with no tickets required.
