Sands of Purgatory is a new Guernsey-made short film directed by Alex Bates, who previously created Occupied, Dare to Dream and Born of Water under the local production company White Rock Productions.
The film is set in a meticulously crafted post-apocalyptic world, wherein a lone fighter struggles for retribution after she suffers a huge loss. The film has a cast and crew of over 80 people, with credits on productions such as The Odyssey, Black Mirror and True Detective: Night Country. Together they have created an ambitious, immersive and cinematic experience that shows off the best of what Guernsey's creative community has to offer.
Sands of Purgatory premieres in Guernsey on the 2nd of April at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts. Doors open at 19:00 with live music from local singer Emily Fern, with the film beginning at 19:30.
Later in April, the film will screen at Glowflare Short Film Festival, where it has been nominated for 7 awards including best film, before screening at Harrogate Film Festival.
The film is sponsored by Guernsey Arts, Stephen Ainsworth and Stephen Collas, with accommodation sponsorship from the Little Big Hotel Group and support from Guernsey Museums & Galleries.
