Have you ever wanted to try pottery wheel throwing? Then this 3 week course is for you. No experience is required and all materials are included in the price. (extra clay can be bought in the studio)
The first part of learning to use the pottery wheel is getting an introduction to the 3 principle steps of: PREPARING your clay, CENTERING your clay, SHAPING your clay.
Week 1:
In our workshop Lesson 1: Prepare, Centre and Shape, you will be introduced to these three steps through demonstration and hands on practice throwing simple shapes and cylinders on the potters wheel. You will have a 1 hour session with one of our experienced potters followed by a further 1 hour of wheel time to practice. You will be shown how to set-up and clean-up your wheel and workspace. You will have 6 kilos of clay to play with.
Week 2:
Week 2 is fine tuning week. You will have a 1 hour session with one of our experienced potters followed by a further 1 hour of wheel time. You will have 6 kilos of clay to play with.
Week 3:
In week 3 students learn how to TRIM and TURN the vessels you made in previous lessons. Trimming and Turning is the next element in the wheel process. In this step you make your vessels more pleasing to the eye, tidying up rough edges, shaping the rim, adding a foot at the base of the vessel. After this session, we will bisque fire a maximum of 6 pieces in our kiln (extra pieces can be fired for an additional fee).
