Blackshirt Masquerade is the first book in the Department Z series about 1930s Britain under the shadow of fascism. A disgraced army officer is recruited by MI5 to infiltrate Oswald Mosley’s Blackshirts, but a twist of fate makes him a hero of the movement. We now know that the fascists never took power in Britain, but Jason discusses how he’s woven fact with fiction to explore a menacing possibility.
