Being Northern Irish is everything. Tish Delaney will talk about her debut Before My Actual Heart Breaks in the context of being a Northern Irish writer. The book is set in the time and place of her childhood, the late 1960s and 1970s in West Tyrone where it meets the border with Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. The book is an unusual love story, set against the madness of those times. It shows the ordinary lives being led behind the headlines of the Troubles but leaves the reader in no doubt that there is no such thing as an ordinary life.
