The 76th Guernsey One Act Play Festival runs in two sections, Monday, 18th May to Wednesday, 21st May is mainly celebrating Youth Drama, then a break on Thursday night with Friday, the 22nd of May presenting adult themed plays and Saturday 23rd May, our family friendly awards night. This, all under the watchful eye of our experienced GoDA adjudicator Ben Humphrey.
The festival runs for six nights between 18th and 23rd May. It hosts youth and adult plays. All the competitors have had to work to strict Festival rules.
Monday night showcases GADOC’s young talent with a colourful musical, “The Zany Zoo” then an extract from “Midsummer Night’s Dream” in “The Mechanical’s Story”.
Tuesday brings a pantomime, an original script from Lyndsey Dowinton of Star Dramatics, “ Where the story is actually about Alice's mother” followed by an ensemble piece from Les Varendes High School, “ Too Fast”.
Wednesday starts with a farcical play presented by the Sixth Form Centre called” The Queen Must Die ”. This is followed by two thought provoking plays, “The Basement Flat”, GADOC and “It” from the Cheshire School of Dramatic Arts.
Thursday is a rest day!
Friday’s first play brings original writing from Lee Flewitt, an intriguing piece, “Child’s Play” performed by our overseas friends, “The Alderney Theatre Group” .Drumm Machine Theatre end the evening with their fast paced adult drama, “Brothers”
Facade Film and Shows finishes the Festival on Saturday, with a WW2 drama penned by 16 year old director, Billy Le Page, followed by the final adjudication and awards.
The programme:
Each night of Performances starts at 7pm. Prices for each evening £11 plus 7.5% booking fee – there are no concessions. Interval of 15mins between each play. 5 Night tickets are £45 plus 7.5% booking fee and entitle the purchaser to a seat for each of the 5 nights and a voting card. Season tickets must be purchased by 7pm on the opening night and are only available at the Beau Sejour box office.
Parental Guidance = Monday suitable for all ages. Tuesday, second play, Wednesday all plays 8+ Friday 14+ adult themes and language Saturday suitable for all ages
Seating: This event has allocated seating and is in the David Ferguson Hall and all seats are on the flat
Timings: All performances start at 7pm and should be finished by 9.45pm on Monday and Tuesday. 10.15pm on Wednesday, 9.30pm on Friday and 9.45 on Saturday.
Notes: Anyone who is registered with Education, Sport & Culture’s Concessionary Access scheme will be entitled to a ticket free of charge for their carer. This is only available when booking with Beau Sejour Leisure Centre's Box Office in person.
