Art at the Park: 'The Stillness of Place' by Wendy Griffin

The National Trust of Guernsey's Art at the Park Gallery in Saumarez Park is delighted to showcase Wendy Griffin's new art exhibition 'The Stillness of Place'.

Wendy's landscapes and seascapes are beautifully serene evoking long summers and crisp cold winters. Using oil paints as well as pastels, Wendy's mastery of both media results in wonderful scenes typical of the Guernsey we all know and love.

The exhibition runs from Tuesday the 6th of October until Friday the 30th of October between 10am and 5pm daily (Please be aware that the exhibition will close at 2pm on the final day.). The Gallery is free entry and is accessible friendly. 

Wendy Griffin is a Guernsey based artist whose work explores the quiet beauty and enduring character of the Island’s landscapes and coastline, and also the places she visits regularly in the UK. Working in oils and pastels, whether “en plein air” or in the studio, she is drawn to places that invite stillness, quiet bays, winding coastal paths, open skies, and the ever-changing meeting of land and sea.

Her work explores the emotional connection we form with the places around us. Rather than simply recording a view, she seeks to capture a sense of atmosphere, memory and presence: those moments when a landscape seems to hold a feeling, a story, or a moment of peace. Through expressive colour, texture, and light, Wendy’s paintings reflect both the tranquillity and the power of the natural world whether depicting calm waters or restless seas, her work is rooted in a belief that places can comfort, restore and connect us to something larger than ourselves.

For Wendy, painting is an act of paying attention, a way of honouring the beauty, resilience and quiet spirit of the landscape. Her work invites viewers to pause, look closely, and find their own sense of stillness within the places she portrays. 

Wendy has held several solo exhibitions in the island, and her work can also be found together with her prints, cards and calendars in local galleries and establishments as well as her home studio.

In addition to Wendy’s paintings there will be a small display of her late Father’s watercolours. Tony Taylor was a well-known local artist and teacher of watercolour who held many local exhibitions in the island, and whose work is held in private collections both locally and afar. All proceeds from any sales of his paintings will be given to the Stroke Association.
