A short film based in Guernsey
Written & directed by Guernsey born filmmaker Joshua Fletcher, Albert is a short film based on a Guernsey folk tale dating back to 18/19th centuries.
The film is an adaptation of the original tale - searching for the truth in the myth, exploring the fight between nature and order, witchcraft and religion.
At the centre of the film is the book 'Le Petit Albert', copies of which are held at Candie Museum and the Priaulx Library. The myth suggests that books were feared, as were those that owned them, and were themselves indestructible - finding their way back to their owners after attempts to destroy them.
The film made its festival premiere at New Renaissance Film Festival London where it won the prize for 'Best Historical Short' and screened as part of the 23rd CineCity Film Festival in Brighton.
It was shot on Guernsey in October 2024 with a cast of local talent, Cameron Ashplant (Marooned Awakening, Whispers of Freedom) as Sarre, and James Howard (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - stage) as The Rector. To pull off the ambitious period set production was a mix of talented local crew who joined forces with a handful of travelling professional UK film crew, whom hold combined credits on films for Universal Pictures, Apple TV, ITV and the BBC.
The film is supported by Guernsey Arts, Visit Guernsey, produced and co-financed by Ivy Gate Films and made with the help of Guernsey Museums & Galleries, The National Trust of Guernsey, Renew, Guernsey Fire Brigade, Renoir Tea Rooms, Condor Ferries and Pandora Hotel.
The event is sponsored by Island's Insurance and St James who have ensured the event is
