Come and join us for an extravaganza celebrating amateur drama in our 75th Guernsey One Act Play Festival. The festival runs for four nights between 20th and 23rd May. It hosts youth and adult plays, three original scripts, an Agatha Christie, three new directors (two only fourteen), seasoned actors, new talent, a musical and our very welcome Alderney entry, all ably watched over by our experienced UK Guild of Drama Adjudicator Chris Baglin. All the competitors have had to work to strict Festival rules.
Tuesday night starts with twenty-six children blasting off on a musical space quest to find The Blue Crystal. Pages of Time highlights the life of a grandmother and
Wednesday brings two plays Dear Chloe, directed and written by a teenager, celebrates teenage friendship and loss and Kin explores sibling relationships
impacted by illness and loss.
Thursday night starts with The Rats, a quintessential Agatha Christie, next is The Bench, an original script directed by a teenager. This highlights the pain caused by teenage bullying. Fewer Emergencies, a Cheshire Dramatic Arts entry, ends the evening. This play encourages us to “confront the ways we narrate trauma”.
Friday night is family friendly and ends the festival on a lighter note and laughter with a comedy, our Alderney entry, Anger Management, followed by the adjudicator’s final thoughts and the excitement of hearing the trophy winners.
A programme of the festival and synopses of the plays can be found on Guernsey One Act Play Festival Facebook page.
Parental guidance: Dear Chloe 11+, Kin and all the plays on Thursday night 12+
