A FREE screening of Jacques’ Offenbach’s opera “Robinson Crusoé” is taking place on the 21 July at The Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts (PRCPA), thanks to a partnership between the Opéra de Rennes Angers and Guernsey Arts.

Opera sur L’Ecran - Opera On Screen
Opera on Screen is a regional initiative championed by the Brittany and Loire regions. The aim of the initiative is to make opera accessible to all by sharing free screenings recorded from the Opera d’Angers Nantes and the Opera de Rennes. Co-produced by Angers, Nantes, Rennes, Toulon and Nancy, the event is now in its 6th edition and is open to viewers from the ages of 8 and up.
Be transported to the heart of the opera as the intrepid tale of Robinson Crusoé comes to life on screen. Laurent Pelly’s production of Robinson Crusoé is a bold contemporary reinterpretation of Offenbach’s opera, transforming the original adventure tale into a sharp social satire. Moving from a 1950s British family setting to a modern urban landscape resembling Manhattan, the staging explores themes of exclusion, migration and consumerism.
The inventive scenography, dark comedy and imaginative character transformations give new meaning to the familiar story... will Robinson choose solitude over a return to conventional life?
