In Living Memory 2020

In Living Memory 2020 is a collaboration between a community of artists, authors, poets, historians and survivors, culminating in a publication which will be launched at the Guernsey Literary Festival 2020. The exhibition of the same name, In Living Memory 2020, at the Greenhouse Gallery, will include these original art works created specifically for this exciting new book. Presented in conjunction with the Guernsey Literary Festival, an evening of sonnets. Not just Shakespeare. From the Italian sonetto, which means "a little song," the sonnet is a popular classical form that has compelled poets for centuries. Traditionally, the sonnet is a fourteen-line poem written in iambic pentameter. The modern sonnet can often only be identified by the ghost imprint that haunts it, recognizable by the presence of 14 lines or even by name only. Come to listen or bring your own to read aloud. Paul Mayhew-Archer

Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011, Paul started doing stand up about the illness at Parkinson's UK Fundraisers and then took his first one man show 'Incurable Optimist' to the Edinburgh Fringe. In 2019 he took the show on a nationwide tour to share the theraputic power of laughther and comedy in coping with serious illness. Paul is an award-winning writer who has written and edited for a number of well-known BBC programmes including The Vicar of Dibley, SPittiong Image, Miranda and Mrs Browns Boys. A La Perchoine

The Guernsey Evacuation Musical 'A Las Perchoine' was first produced in 1990. For the 75th Anniversary of Liberation, it is appropriate for island schoolchildren to take part in this living history. A cast of around 600 will reenact the evacuation of children to England before the occupation of German forces. What was seen as a short 'holiday' lasted 5 years and changed the way of life of many Guernsey people. The musical was written by the late John Loaring and Martin Cordall.

The Tangled Hedge - Finding a new kind of aesthetic or learning to be a little less tidy. La Societe's Pollinator Project is delighted to bring Nick Baker to Guernsey. When it comes to presenting wildlife Nick Baker is the total package - an edgy, exciting TV presenter with incredible drive and passion. His experience encompasses expeditions to the wildest parts of the planet in search of weird, bizarre and incredible creatures. Nick is known as an engaging speaker and his passion for his subject shines through. Nick explores how we change the way we view and value nature and in turn learn to live with nature, lighten our touch and integrate new values into our lives. He'll explore the benefits it can bring to individuals, society and biodiversity and practical ways to go about it. Freestylers who are known for their huge hits B-Boy stance, Ruffneck and Push up shot to fame with their debut album 'We Rock Hard', and went on from there playing all the biggest music festivals and night clubs around the world.
