A Cultural Exchange

Japanese prints and drawings flooded into Europe when Japan opened its borders to the West in the mid 19th century. This influx of Eastern art influenced many Western artists, changing the course of art and design forever. This exhibition, in the whole museum, looks at these Eastern influences as well as the more surprising influences of Western art on Japan.

Tom Hicks, Piano

Introducing the first concert of the Fanny Davies International Piano Series - An educational workshop and recital series for everyone in Guernsey, especially new concertgoers: Tom Hicks, piano Peter Mitchell, narrator John Ireland The Island Spell John Ireland Sarnia Tchaikovsky The Seasons Tom Hicks presents an evening recital with a local theme to launch both the Fanny Davies International Piano Series and his newly released CD. John Ireland's colourful and exciting Sarnia takes its inspiration from local scenery, landmarks and folklore. The themes of turning seasons, nature, song, dance, myth and legend also run through Tchaikovsky’s popular and lyrical The Seasons. This will all be brought alive by Peter Mitchell’s readings of the accompanying poetry and prose. In the afternoon workshop, Tom will work with local piano students on their current repertoire. Big SOUND Summer Party

Découpage Workshops

As part of 'Le French Festival' and in association with Sula Framing and Gallery Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club are delighted to be running a series of French-Themed Découpage Workshops at Sula Gallery on Friday 12th July. There will be three 1-hour sessions starting at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm and in these fun and creative workshops you will learn how to transform a bottle into a beautiful table decoration complete with micro-fairy lights using the technique of Découpage .. all in just one hour! A great item for your own home or to give as a gift. Tea and coffee will be provided. The workshop costs just £10 per per person per session. Early booking is recommended.

Arts & Crafts Exhibition

Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club's annual Summer Exhibition takes place this year at Elizabeth College from Friday 26th July - Sunday 4th August. A treasure trove of original and unique artwork created by some of Guernsey's most talented artists and craftsmen. Exhibits include paintings, ceramics, silk work, textiles, hand-made jewellery and glass, cards, miniatures and much, much more. Many of the exhibits on display won major awards at this Guernsey Eisteddfod and nearly everything is for sale. The exhibition is one of the highlights in Guernsey's arts calendar and well worth several visits as items which are sold are replaced throughout the exhibition with new work from our skilful and creative artists. A great opportunity to purchase unique gifts and cards. The exhibition opens daily from 10am - 5pm (closing at 3pm on the final day). Free entry and Free Parking.

Ed Byrne - At St James
