We had great pleasure in attending the opening night of the Skipton Arts Festival. It was very well attended and there was certainly plenty of beautiful, poignant and stunning work on show.
We saw mixed media such as the gold piece with the black dot, which remained the mind’s eye of His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governor, Sir Ian Corder, exquisite embroidery of insects and flowers, tender watercolours, simple ink drawings, vast canvasses of local flora in an array of greens and yellow. These are just a sample of what was shown.
Frances Lemmon gave a short opening speech, followed by our Russ Fossey, Head of Arts Development, then rounded off splendidly by His Excellency Lieutenant Governor, Sir Ian Corder. His Excellency awarded Sharmane Dodd – Artist and Illustrator , who was selected by the independent judging panel as the winner of the Quay Gallery sponsored prize for the best entry to the Open Exhibition.
All in all it was an enjoyable evening, meeting up with so many artists. It’s great to see our artists coming together. Head down to the Inner Market until the end of August.
So this weekend, meet up with friends and family, have a coffee in town, and go and see the splendid work on show in the Inner Market.
