HUGO THE EXILE EXHIBITION

The world premiere of a new exhibition by French/Slovenian photographer Klavdij Sluban, who takes us through an exploration of Victor Hugo’s Exile in Guernsey. Mounted in association with the Guernsey Photography Festival and Maison de Victor Hugo, Paris. Plus Foyer display on Crime & Punishment in Victorian Guernsey in the Brian White gallery. Commissioned by the Guernsey Photography Festival with the support of Paris Museums, Maisons de Victor Hugo Guernsey/Paris, Guernsey Arts Commission and Norman Piette Ltd.

FOX OPEN ART COMPETITION DEADLINE

2 September 2014

Last chance to enter this annual art competition with the opportunity of winning one of two prizes in the adult category (£1000 and £500) and to have your work exhibited in both Guernsey and Jersey. There is also a 12 – 18 year olds category for the Jock Russell Award with a prize of £250. This year’s judge is Liam Spencer, one of the UK’s leading artists and known for his portrayal of urban landscapes. Each entrant may submit up to two works which can include paintings, drawings, original prints and textiles as well as mixed media. KRANION – EXHIBITION LAUNCH

Guernsey Picture Framers and Art Gallery Presents – Andrew Woodward (Ster-One) solo show. Andrew Woodward also known as Ster-One-1 is to exhibit for the second time in the last few years and returns for his “Kranion” solo show with a exquisite collection of unusual new works exploring his fascination of skulls and letter forms as well as other recent paintings. Launch Night – Tuesday 9th September – 7pm till 9pm

Guernsey Youth Theatre present The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Guernsey Youth Theatre presentation. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the legendary BBC Comedy series comes to life. On stage in Guernsey this September. Journey with Arthur Dent, a 6ft tall ape descendant, as he’s rescued from the planet Earth, seconds before it’s destroyed by an intergalactic alien constructor fleet. Will he hold on to his sanity as he’s whisked off on a quest to find the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything? Hilarious, witty and totally out of this world. With the support of six Guernsey businesses Guernsey’s Summer Finale event “Proms on the Pier”, to be held on Saturday 13 September on Albert Pier, will be bigger and better than ever before. The first half of the evening, an outdoor musical concert from 7.30pm to 9pm, will feature performances from Guernsey’s Bel Canto, Guernsey Male Voice Choir and the Guernsey Jazz Orchestra. Shortly after 9pm, the focus will move to the Royal Albert Hall in London as the second half of the Last Night of the Proms is beamed live on to the big screen on Albert Pier. Spectators can wave their flags, don their oversized Guernsey and Union Jack flags and join in the uplifting singing that is synonymous with Last Night of the Proms. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the first screening of Walt Disney’s classic film, Mary Poppins, and a special Mary Poppins medley is part the second half of Last Night of the Proms.The fireworks display will be timed for approximately 10:40pm as the Last Night of the Proms comes to its traditional end and before The Barlows take to the stage on Albert Pier for the evening’s finale

Aindré Reece-Sheerin presents ‘Another Night of Magic at the Musicals’ featuring many of the Bailiwick’s front line performers including ‘the lady who doesn’t do solos’, Kim Reece-Sheerin, with Dominique Ogier, Julie Tostevin, Graham Dawson and many more and including a varied selection of songs from Annie, Les Misérables, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The Man of La Mancha and other favourites. GUERNSEY PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL – OPENING NIGHT

The opening night of the festival presents illustrated talks from 3 photographers, Agent Vue member, Liz Hingley, Scarlett Coten and John Angerson. The evening will also include music from The Ukeladeez and a live performance from young local composer Angus MacRae. He has been specially commissioned to create a musical soundtrack to the visuals of ten selected photographers in collaboration with The Victor Hugo Music Festival. French photographer Scarlett Coten works regularly in North Africa and the Middle East. She talks about her evocative project ‘Metcoub’.
Critically acclaimed documentary photographer John Angerson will be in conversation with festival director Jean-Christophe Godet talking about his exhibition ‘Jesus Army’ and his more recent work. Liz Hingley will present an intimate document of the city where she grew up exploring the many religions crammed into the two mile stretch of Soho Road in Birmingham. www.guernseyphotographyfestival.com/2014/

MAKING A MARK EXHIBITION OPENING

Artists communicate through making marks. In this exhibition you’ll be able to explore how these various marks are made, from straightforward drawing materials to elaborate printing techniques. GUERNSEY PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL – AN EVENING WITH…

The festival presents it’s third evening with an exciting selection of European artists including Massimiliano Gatti from Italy, Andrei Nacu from Romania, Inaki Domingo and Alfonso Almendros both from Spain.Massimiliano Gatti uses his archeological background to produce moving images of found objects left behind by illegal immigrants. Traces of their attempt to reach a better future. Gemma Padley, jounrnalist at the British Journal of Photography will be in conversation with Alfonso Almendros, Andrei Nacu and Inaki Domingo discussing the collaborative process, family and contemporary photography in Europe today.Don’t miss our last talk of the evening with Inaki Domingo who is part of the new wave of Spanish photographers and founder of collective NoPhoto. Domingo’s ‘Ser Sangre’ is an inspirational new collaborative project with his own family.
