We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a grant from Pargiter Trust, Community Foundation, to deliver a pilot ‘Reminiscence Arts’ project ‘Bringing Memories to Life’ with dementia sufferers and their carers. ‘Reminiscence Arts’ respects the life and experiences of the individual with the aim to improve mood and self-esteem and reduce levels of isolation, unhappiness and depression.
The RA workshop activities engage participants in remembering, recording, celebrating and sharing their long life histories, experiences and stories. The arts are used as the tool to trigger the memories and capture the stories. The reminiscence workshops will use a range of stimuli such as: music, dance, museum artefacts, theatre, sensory materials, as well as photography and film.
We are working in partnership with ‘Age Exchange’ who is recognised as the leading UK charity working in the field of reminiscence. They have over 25 years’ experience in reminiscence work and developing professionals to confidently practice reminiscence techniques and will be training the Community Arts Team.
