New Novel of Guernsey in the Great War

Glint of Light on Broken Glass is the latest novel from local author Jason Monaghan. It follows the fortunes of two Guernsey brothers and the woman they both love, set against the background of the Great War.

The broken glass is in the spectacles of George, crippled and widely thought a fool. Within a glint of light he believes he is being followed by a beautiful girl who can tell him the future. Myth and superstition are wound through the story. Dark family secrets and the looming European War overshadow the lives of the three young people.

Heavily researched, the book depicts Guernsey on the cusp of change. Some characters speak Guernesiais and hang on to the old ways, others embrace the new century. The effects of the war on the small community are keenly felt.

Jason is well known in the Channel Islands as an archaeologist and historian, but he has also had five archaeological thrillers published under the pen name of Jason Foss. Glint of Light on Broken Glass is his first historical fiction, and the first under his own name.  It is available in local bookshops, and online in paperback and e-book format. Jason has also written a blog following the book to publication on his website;
