Have yourself an alternative Christmas with the latest exhibition in the greenhouse. The Guernsey Arts Commission invited Commissioner and artist Eric Snell to curate the show, which looks at the theme of ‘White Christmas’.
Eric asked artists, architects, photographers and designers from around the world, whom he has worked with this year, to make an artwork based on ‘White Christmas’. Each invitee received in the post a small 5 inch square primed canvas as a catalyst for the realisation of an idea associated with this theme.
The finished work was to be no bigger than 180mm x 180mm x 180mm and there was just one month allowed for its completion and return to the Guernsey Arts Commission. The exhibition White Christmas showcases the numerous ‘solutions’ that were created and is an exciting snapshot of the variety of current practice being explored in the visual arts.
The total number of works exhibited in White Christmas is 48 and the works have come as far as America, Europe and Japan as many local artists. The type of work on display in this exhibition ranges from photography, painting, sculpture to sound, light and senses.
the greenhouse is open Monday to Friday 9.00am until 5.00pm and Saturday 9.00am until 1.00pm, admission is free. White Christmas will be exhibited until 15th January 2011.
