Great music helps raise funds for GBG CD

The Music Sub-Committee held their latest fundrasier for the GBG #3 compilation CD on Saturday 2 April 2011 at the Fermain Tavern. Sub-committee member Tom Girard shares his thoughts on the night.

Take a look at photos from the night here, thanks to Helen Arnold for taking the pics.

The Tavern rocked to a mix of original local music from three bands spanning styles of rock music.

Newcomers China Aster kicked things off with a set of songs heavily influenced by the likes of The Smiths, Style Council and Manic Street Preachers and showed a lot of promise for such a young band.

Tantale were next on stage and in little over a year together the band have developed a sound that combines various styles to create something quite different from the rest of the musical crop in Guernsey. Combining striaght forward rock, with prog, grunge and experimental elements makes for music thats interesting for the musos but could also draw people onto the dancefloor.

Brutus Stonefist headlined the night with a set of pounding hardcore inflected metal which brought more on the dancefloor. The band, who are just completing recording of their debut album, played on the tightest sets I have ever seen them play and rounded the night off with a real bang.

If you want to appear on GBG #3 fill out this form and send it to Mark Le Gallez at Twist Records.
