Economic Development support for the arts cut to zero for 2018

You are probably aware by now that the arts has had its budget from Event Group funding from Economic development cut to zero for 2018.

This announcement has come out of the blue and was wholly unexpected, and obviously will have a major impact on the festival scene for 2018 and beyond.

We are currently in the process of writing to Economic Development to robustly challenge this decision.

We have updated festival organisers on this development and will keep everyone up-to-date with further developments.

In the meantime, we need to hear your voices, loud and clear, on the impact of losing this funding and the impact it will have on the festival scene and the wider arts community.

We want you to voice your feelings on this, but in a constructive, factual and considered manner. The more evidence we have to support a review of this decision, the better.

Please email us at [email protected]; please contact your deputies here; write to the Guernsey Press and further; contact BBC Radio Guernsey; BBC TV, ITV and make a statement from your festival committee, art groups, bands, theatre groups, all of you.

We need to count on your support NOW in order to highlight the importance of the value of the arts within the Guernsey community.
