Artwork for the new Orchard Centre, at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
The Orchard Centre (Sexual Health) is moving from the Castel Hospital to the Princess Elizabeth. This provides the opportunity to introduce new artwork which will positively impact on the environment and the service user experience.
The green lines on this plan show the areas where the artwork is required.
There are three sections:
- 1. The main corridor has 3 walls identified for artwork.
- 95in height x 115in width
- 95in H x 125in W
- 50in H x 285in W
- 2. Waiting area (tbc)
- 50in H x 100in W
- 3. Disabled access corridor
- 95in H x 160in W
The overall vision for the artwork within the Princess Elizabeth Hospital is to ‘Bring the outside inside.’ We are not looking for artwork to be displayed in frames but for a design to go directly onto the walls. The chosen design will be printed onto vinyl and the Artist will need to prepare the artwork for printing.
The design could simply be solid colours/shapes cut out from vinyl, for example:
Or the whole design printed onto the vinyl (The above image is an example)
The design should flow and link through all the sections identified for artwork on the plan.
(The above image is an example)
Orchards (particularly with reference to Guernsey, e.g apple orchards) have been identified as the theme for the artwork.
The specific function of the centre also requires a consideration of the following in the artwork:
- A sense of calm and relaxation
- Dignity of those using the service
- An increased sense of privacy in the space
- Diversion of attention in the space
The Artist will be expected to research and implement visual language (e.g colours, textures etc) appropriate to the specific needs and function of the space.
The Artist will need to submit an overview of their design ideas along with a portfolio and CV by 5.00pm Friday the 18th of March to email@example.com
The chosen applicant will be informed on Wednesday 23rd of March.
The design is to be completed and ready for print by Friday the 29th of April.
The Artist will be expected to work with the project manager to make sure the design comes within the allocated budget.
The artist will be paid £1,000 for the complete project.
All meeting and planning time is included in this fee.
