Whether you an experienced singer looking for a new, exciting approach to choral singing, a shower crooner who hums and hollers every morning, or if you have always fancied singing in a choir, but think you need to be able to read music, worry you may be ‘tone deaf’ or have not known where to start, then this one day singing workshop is for YOU!
- Saturday 22nd January 2011 10.00am – 4.00pm
- St Martin’s Community Centre
- Open to anyone aged 12 and above – no experience necessary, just enthusiasm! No need to be able to read music.
We are delighted that the internationally recognised community choral director, composer and teacher, Kirsty Martin, will be coming to Guernsey to lead Singing from the Rooftops. Kirsty describes herself as a ‘choral activist’ and is well known throughout the UK for her spine tingling harmonies and addictive choral compositions, as well as her energising, radical approach to teaching and facilitating workshops. Full time secondary school music teacher, founding Musical Director for 140 strong Hullabaloo Community Quire in Brighton and M.D for two seriously funky teen choirs, Kirsty has an energetic and inclusive approach to singing and vocal exploration and believes that singing is your birthright. Her inspiration comes from many forms of music – from medieval to Motown, folk to funk, and doowop to hip hop. She enables everyone to discover their natural and powerful voice, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, so that singing will become what you thought it always could be – creative, fun and personally liberating!
In Singing from the Rooftops, she will be using some wild and wonderful warm ups, rhythm, harmony and movement play, and will be sharing some original bluesy tunes, wondrous world harmony and smoky soulful arrangements – all served with a healthy pinch of musical mirth. Kirsty invites you to shake off the shackles, beat the winter blues and celebrate the close chord, in this rare one day workshop.
Members of the Performing Arts Sub-Committee will also support this event.
