Following on from the success of both the 2010 and 2011 Samba Sunday events the Guernsey Arts Commission’s Performing Arts and Music Sub-Committees are joining forces to present a day spanning all the arts, on the St Peter Port Seafront on 14th August.
Arts Sunday will feature a mix of live music, theatre and dance performances alongside poetry readings and workshops spanning arts disciplines, all free of charge.
The Guernsey Arts Commission are also hoping to hold a Guernsey Arts Market on the day where arts organisations from the island will be able to let people know who they are and what they do from their own ‘market stall’ , while also showcasing some of their work on one of the day’s performance or workshop stages.
The seafront will be closed for the day and the activities will begin at 12 and run until 4.
Tom Girard, the Guernsey Arts Commission”s Communications Officer, says: “We hope this first Arts Sunday will help to show both visitors to Guernsey and locals just how much artistic talent there is in the island and what a range of areas it covers.”
He continues: “We also hope it will bring together the many arts groups that already exist in Guernsey and help nurture the idea of communication, cooperation and collaboration to create a real sense of Guernsey’s artistic community. Samba Sunday already saw the Commission working with Samba Burros and the Let’s Dance zumba groups and it is this spirit of working together we hope to see develop even more than it already is.”
