Six of the Best – Guernsey students in the greenhouse continuing through to end of January
In this show at the greenhouse, the Guernsey Arts Commission is taking a look at SIX OF THE BEST artworks from Guernsey schools’ 2012 Final Year Shows. This is a chance for everyone to find out what the students’ inspirations were and what they are planning to do with their talents in the future.
Six reasons why SIX OF THE BEST will remain on display through December
1: It is an exhibition of local students’ work from the Grammar School, Elizabeth College, Ladies’ College, and the College of Further Education end of year shows.
These include works Flo Le Couteur, Joel Lewis, Harry Martel, Joshua Moore, Harry Stephens and Brad Sumner.
2: The selected works come from the diverse art courses delivered across the island’s further education establishments.
3: The work spans a wide range of arts disciplines from clay work to woodwork and sculpture, images of New York City in acrylic paint on canvas to charcoal on wood.
4: The process offers Guernsey students a chance to display their work to a different audience and experience being involved in an exhibition, many for the first time outside the confines of their schools.
5: The content of the exhibition involved was to go to as many of the Final Year Shows, through June and July 2012, as possible. In the pursuit of fairness the selection process took into consideration the quality of the work, the presentation, and the development shown from each student’s supporting material.
6: For the students, this exhibition is an opportunity to develop their understanding about how what they create ‘fits’ with the rest of the world around them, and how displaying a piece in a different context could have a dramatic effect on its’ meaning.
Mon to Fri: 9am – 5pm, Sat: 9am – 1pm
