The next exhibition to take place in the greenhouse takes a look at 10 of the Best art works from the various Guernsey schools’ 2011 end of year shows.
Spanning arts disciplines from illustration and fashion to photography and video, the exhibition, entitled 10 of the Best, offers Guernsey students a chance to display their work to a broader audience and experience being involved in an exhibition outside the confines of their schools for the very first time.
The exhibition has been curated by the Guernsey Arts Commissions’ Arts Development Assistant, Justiene Boughey who studied Art & Visual Culture and graduated from Bristol UWE in 2007.
She said: “I was delighted when I was asked to pick ten of my favourites from the end of year student exhibitions. I wanted to be fair in my selection process so I took into consideration the quality of the work, the presentation, and the development shown from their supporting material. I tried to pick students who I felt had a good understanding of their chosen medium. Picking my favourites was the fun part, narrowing it down to just 10 students was the hard part!”
The works come from various art courses across all the island’s further education establishments and include a film trailer, an animated short film, illustrations for a book, paintings and a unique costume design.
Justiene says: “I think it’s important for students to have a level of understanding about how what they create ‘fits’ with the rest of the world, and how displaying a piece in a different context can have a dramatic effect on its’ meaning.”
The exhibition opens to the public on 9th September and runs until 5th November in the greenhouse in the Guernsey Information Centre.
