Community Arts Projects expand

Following the success of the weekly Community Arts project at Les Genats Estate, 20th July saw a similar scheme begin in St Martins.

The project, in conjunction with the Guernsey Sports Commission, Drug Concern and the Guernsey Police, aims to take the arts to youngsters who don't ordinarily have access to it.

The Guernsey Arts Commission is looking for new volunteers to get involved, arts skills are not essential, but enthusiasm is! To find out more check out arts.gg or contact Brett Klement on 709749 or brett@arts.gg
Arts Sunday takes over St Peter Port

Sunday 14th August is the first ever Arts Sunday as the seafront in St Peter Port becomes the place to see what Guernsey has to offer in the world of the arts.

Part of it will be the first ever Guernsey Arts Market which gives arts organisations of any sort the chance to show off what they do (if you want a stall contact Tom Girard on tom@arts.gg).

This will be alongside performances and workshops from various groups across all disciplines of the arts.

We've Got It Covered

This month is your last chance to see We've Got It Covered, the most seen exhibition in the greenhouse, with more than 4,200 people having now been in for a look.

The show, which explores the different international dust jacket designs for the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, along with versions by Guernsey students, runs until 29th August.

The next exhibition, 10 of the Best, beginning on 9th September, will take a look at some of the best works from Guernsey's young arts students who have just finished courses at the island's schools.

The works, chosen by arts graduate Justiene Boughey, will span artistic disciplines from painting and design to video and photography.
Guernsey Literary Festival prepares to return

The Guernsey Literary Festival is set to return in 2012 with a series of events taking place beforehand.

The organisers are on the look out for volunteers to get involved now to help run the festival, specifically people with knowledge of budgeting, corporate fundraising and marketing.

The next festival related event takes place in September and is a 3-day workshop/poetry event featuring Candy Neubert. Candy grew up in Guernsey and is a prize-winning poet, novelist, and a judge for the prestigious Bridport Prize. For more info email LeHurelGuernsey@gmail.com
CD Submission closing date

August is the last chance to submit music for the GBG#3 CD.

The Music Sub-Committee and Twist Records have announced that the last day to send in songs will be August 31st.

With 18 songs already submitted the CD is set to include a wide cross section of the local music scene.

Fundraising for the CD continues with a gig on Saturday 20th August at the Fermain Tavern featuring indie rockers Lifejacket, blues band Wildcard and solo performer The Phantom Cosmonaut, doors open at 8.
Summer Workshops Part of the summer workshops is a week of puppet work.
