Meet the Director! Award winning film maker leads workshop

BAFTA nominated film director Avie Luthra is coming to Guernsey, and the Guernsey Arts Commission is offering places on a workshop hosted by this highly talented film maker.

On Saturday 28th January Avie will lead a day-long workshop at Blanchelande College giving an insight into his work, from BBC television’s Canterbury Tales to full length motion pictures, while teaching techniques on how this was achieved.

Chair of our Film, Poetry and Prose Sub-Committee, Catriona Stares, said: “Avie is a very experienced film maker and workshop leader. We are delighted he can fit in a trip to Guernsey to introduce his film and pass on some of his knowledge”. THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL

As well as the workshop, there will also be a screening of his feature length film, Lucky, which has already been shown at the Toronto, Abu Dhabi and Berlin film festivals. The screening will be on the evening of Saturday 28th January at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts and is being held in conjunction with CineGuernsey.

While in Guernsey, Avie will also be talking to local film students from the Grammar School and College of Further Education.

Altogether, he has accumulated 42 film awards, including being short-listed for an Oscar in 2007.  Guernsey is very privileged to have such a talented director teach proven techniques on how to write, prepare, shoot and sell film ideas in today’s fiercely competitive commercial market.
